Top Ten Quotes from Boyd K. Packer

Top Ten Quotes from Boyd K. Packer:

President Boyd K. Packer, an apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away on July 3, 2015 at the age of ninety years old. He served faithfully in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for forty-five years, and was a loyal servant of the Lord his entire life. He was a defender of the faith, an advocate of righteousness, and an example of Christianity. As with the recent passing of L. Tom Perry, when I heard about President Packer’s passing, I remembered the times I heard him speak at General Conference and the strength and power in his voice. And so again, I made a list of some of my favorite quotes from President Packer:

1.   1. "Reverence invites revelation."

In a world that is becoming increasingly hectic, President Packer reminded us that we need to find quiet moments to communicate with our Heavenly Father.

2. "You are never far from the sight of your loving Heavenly Father."

He revealed our relationship with our Father in Heaven by showing us that He is always watching over us and is as concerned for us as our own earthly fathers.

3. "We are not obedient because we are blind, we are obedient because we can see."

Despite the criticism of the world, Packer firmly stood by his beliefs and encouraged others to do the same.

4. "Forgiveness is powerful spiritual medicine. To extend forgiveness, that soothing balm, to those who have offended you is to heal. And, more difficult yet, when the need is there, forgive yourself!"

Though he rooted his beliefs firmly in obedience, President Packer also recognized the need to forgive others and ourselves when mistakes are made.

5. "If you stumble, rise up, go on."

This simple declaration of encouragement shows Packer’s unwavering testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He knew, without a doubt, that the Savior paid for our sins and that we each have the ability to move on.

6. "(Christ) is the anchor that holds us and protects us and our families through the storms of life."

Boyd K. Packer was a strong defender of the family and often preached about how families could become closer and more unified. He indicated the importance of relying wholly on Jesus Christ and making Him the foundation of our lives.

7. "Faith is a real power, not just an expression of belief."

President Packer insisted on the true power of even the smallest expressions of faith. He encouraged people to cultivate their faith and see the miracles that can come from it.

8. "True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior."

This quote is one of the most profound statements I have heard. He taught that once we understand the principle behind a rule, or the end goal by following it, we will have a stronger desire to obey the commandments we have been given.

9. "Much of what I know that really matters I have learned from being a father."

Boyd K. Packer emulated the love of our Heavenly Father in his own family and showed a powerful example of leadership in his home and to those he taught.

10. "Our lives are made up of thousands of everyday choices. Over the years these little choices will be bundled together and show clearly what we value."

This quote sums up President Boyd K. Packer’s life so eloquently. His small, everyday choices bundled together to create an incredible life of service and love and dedication. He left a legacy of faith and determination as a faithful Apostle of the Lord.
